My Favourite Book.
Hello!
This
is quite a hard topic, considering from time to time I had so much books I've
enjoyed, and I was supposed to pick one. But I just can't, so heres a long list
of my favourite books so far.
One
of my most enjoyed series must be from Madeleine L'Engle. I especially loved
the "Wrinkle In Time", "A Swiftly Moving Planet" and
"Many Waters".
I
loved how The Murry's get along so well, and how sweet Meg and Calvin are, just
like a regular family, but they are also at the same time the most genius
people. I loved how the house held somekind of homey coziness even though it is
just in a book. As I read about Meg drinking her cocoa in the storm, I felt as
it was raining as well, and when Charles Wallace was disappearing I felt Meg's
sorrow. I felt the twins shivers as they entered Mother's laboratory, and their
curiousity as they made cocoa on Mother's Bunsen burner.
I
was also captivated at the physics in this book, from explaining the 5th
dimension, to time travelling, space continuum, and much more things that I
didn't fully understand as a 5th grader reading it.
I
also enjoyed the Percy Jackson and Heroes of Olympus series very much. I loved
Percy's sassiness, and when it was combined with Leo in Heroes of Olympus, I
laughed all the way. I could read it for a day long without getting horribly
bored. I loved how badass Piper was, even when she discovered that she was a
daughter of Aphrodite, she didn't change her attitude and fighting spirit.
I
loved how Annabeth could be so annoying and short-tempered at times, but also
the most understanding and kind person at the same time. I admire how she could
be so generous to Luke Castellan even though he hurt her feelings.
I
love Percy and his loyalty, how he refused immortality so he could be with
Annabeth instead, how he jumped into Tartarus with Annabeth when he could
easily jumped out instead, he chose to go to the depths of hell, fighting the
most terrible monsters of all Ancient Greece, all out of his love for Annabeth.
I
loved how Leo never for a second doubted his inventions, he always held trust
in Festus the dragon, even though it broke, he still trusted in Festus, and
eventually, it was his trust that brought him back to Ogygia and reconciled
with Calypso.
I
learned a whole lots of things about Greek mythology from this series, learning
stuff that regular children wouldn't know in 6th grade, like who is Cerberus?
Why is Zeus the most powerful god?
I
maybe don't understand the whole Greek Mythology thing, but the amount of
knowledge I do have is pretty decent.
I
also reread Summerhill School millions of times. I guess the first time I read
Summerhill School was in 5th grade. I instantly thought that this school was
the most brilliant thing in this world, and A. S. Neill is the most genius
pioneer in education, asides from Waldorf I guess. This isn't a work of
fiction, but what I truly love about this book is how it made me see education
not just from a students eye, but also from a parents point of view and the
teachers point of view. I also saw that things that growing up I disliked was
actually the things that makes me stabilized for now.
It
was actually pretty tough for a 5th grader, but as I reread it frequently I
understood more and more. The most memorable thing, is that I picked the book
up only because the cover was fun and colourful.
I
also remembered how Kak Mar was so surprised when he saw me reading it, as it
was one of his main sources for his thesis and I'm reading it. I think Kak
Rizky was also surprised when Kak Mar told him I was reading Summerhill School,
and I protested that it wasn't that hard to digest.
I
also love the Mysterious Benedict's Society series. I read it in 4th and 5th
grade, and it was the most darkest thing I read as a child. It was a genius
writing and well wrote, but it was so dark and mysterious at the same time. I
didn't read it again because I actually had nightmares about "The
Institute" where kid prodigies were brain washed so their abilities were
used for their research. I actually did have a hard time reading it, but as I
aged it was easier to understand, and it was actually quite light.
I
think it was supposed to be only one, but making me choose a favourite book is
like making a mother choose her favourite child, so this is my list, it
actually goes on and on but I should stop here I guess. Thank you if you did
read the whole thing, and if you didn't, well thanks as well.
